El Roi (The God who sees)

Devotional:

Sometimes, life has its way of making you feel unseen. Though you fast and pray, it feels like God has turned His ear away from you. Instead of circumstances getting better, they become harder to withstand. In this place, how does one find the strength to press on?

After enduring harsh treatment consistently at the hands of Sarai, Hagar had enough. She ran away into the wilderness, where she encountered the Angel of the Lord. By the release of the Word, God assured her that He saw her tears. And because of this, He promised to increase her descendants beyond that which she could count.

When she received an answer from The Lord, that was the moment she felt seen. Though God’s promise hadn’t manifested in her hands just yet, she allowed the Word to strengthen her. For some of you, this is how you find the strength to press on. You must find your answer in God’s Word and trust what it promises you.

So though life makes you feel unseen, trust the revealed nature of God. He is El Roi. The God who sees…

Scripture(s) Meditation:

“My soul dissolves because of grief; Renew and strengthen me according to [the promises of] Your word.”

Psalm 119:28 AMP

“So she called the name of the Lord Who spoke to her, You are a God of seeing, for she said, Have I [not] even here [in the wilderness] looked upon Him Who sees me [and lived]? Or have I here also seen [the future purposes or designs of] Him Who sees me?”

Genesis 16:13 AMPC

Reflection Question(s): We invite you to discuss below.

What are the circumstances of life that has made you feel unseen? How has God given your situation an answer through His Word? Are you allowing those answers to bring you the spiritual strength you need to continue on?
