Wrong Direction

Devotional:

After being on the bus for over 15 years, I grew accustomed to knowing each route and where it could take me. I became so reliant on the bus, that whenever I had to drive a car, I didn't know how to follow the navigation directions Siri gave. I'd always turn too early or too late. But you know one thing I absolutely loved about the maps feature? No matter how many turns I "missed", it would always recalibrate and give new directions to reach the same destination.

You know who this reminds me of? Jonah. The young prophet sent to Nineveh, but decided he wanted to do his own thing. Instead of God punishing him, he simply created the perfect storm to draw Jonah back to himself. Though he experienced some turbulence, it only brought him closer to God. It was beautiful to see that even in his mishaps and mistakes that God still used him in the way He originally designed.

In life, it may seem that you are going in the wrong direction. Where you heard what God said, but somehow you still ended up on a completely different path. Today, I want to encourage you that even when you slip up, God can recalibrate your life to still get you to where He needs you to be. Once you reach your destination, you will see that God worked every pit-stop and pit-fall out for your good. So instead of exiting out of the app and thinking that all hope is lost. I encourage you to be still and allow God to recalibrate you and get you on the right track.

If God could do it for Jonah, know that He can do it for you!

Scripture(s) Meditation:

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“But the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.”

‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

‭‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Reflection Question(s): We invite you to discuss below.

What direction has God instructed you to go in? Which direction did you choose instead? What turbulence have you run into because of your disobedience? How will you use this experience to draw closer unto God?
